I was so frustrated! In the classroom, I could understand what my teacher and classmates were saying. I could even usually understand what my Australian friends were talking about. But I found the IELTS Listening test tricky. There always seems to be at least two possible right answers.

Murray was the one that showed me how to deal with this. He explained that in the Listening test, they put distractors in to make it more difficult. He showed me the different types of distractors. After a few practice tests, my results went up by one whole band score! Murray is the best IELTS teacher I have had.

I have always had trouble speaking in front of strangers. My pronunciation is not very good at the best of times – but when I had to do the speaking part of the IELTS test, my tongue always seemed to trip over itself. I had already taken the test 3 times and was starting to feel I would never get the score I needed.

Luckily I found Murray. In about 2 weeks, he helped me improve so much that my friends from other countries were surprised. He showed me how to use reduced forms of words in connected speech, like native speakers do. He also talked to me about psychological preparation and how to remain calm before a test. I got the Speaking score I needed!!

My biggest problem was Task 2 Writing. I needed to get an IELTS Band 7 and no matter how hard I tried, I could only ever get a 6.0 or 6.5. I knew I had to somehow reach another level.

Murray talked to me about writing in a way that I had not heard of before. He explained that you need to go through a thinking process before you start writing, and that if the thinking process fails, the writing will fail. He also told me what IELTS examiners are looking for in writing, especially in regard to the Task Response.

After tutoring classes with Murray, I got an IELTS Band 7.5 for Task 2 Writing in my next test. I couldn’t be happier – thank you Murray!
